Shri Baneshwar Temple, Pandav-era Cave Temple, Bhor – A Historical Structure Located near Pune city, in the tech area of Bhor village known for its "Smart City" label, the Shri Baneshwar Temple is a major tourist attraction. Among the many small caves in this temple, one cave features a naturally flowing water stream from the rocks, which is believed to be formed when Arjuna struck the rock with his arrow. According to traditional beliefs and Sanskrit scriptures, this place is called "Baan Mohnya," and hence the village was named "Baner." Such is the ancient significance of this site.
During the rule of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, a special dome structure was built in the temple. A unique flower inside the temple is said to bloom only during the month of Jyeshtha (May-June) and is named after Shivaji Maharaj. Even today, devotees visit the temple to see this rare flower, which adds to the temple's historical and natural importance.
Bhasma Aarti is a sacred ritual dedicated to Lord Mahakal performed inside the Garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum) of the temple.
The priests collect pious ash from Dhuni, the sacred Akhand fire that burns continually in the temple premises.
At dawn, the doors open and Pujari begins with Panchamrit bath, followed by offerings of sacred pastes and Chandan.
Sacred ash (Vibhuti) is brought on a silver plate and applied to the Shiva Lingam with deep devotion.
Priests chant Shiv Mantras in Sanskrit throughout the Aarti, creating a spiritually charged atmosphere.
"When the melodious Vedic mantras and visuals of Bhasma Aarti touch your soul, you feel intense spirituality in the air."
